Broader SARS Threat To Come From Fear, Containment Measures

Summary

The World Health Organization has formally identified the viral source of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, and work is now under way for more effective testing and treatment. In tracing the SARS pandemic and looking more closely at the organism responsible for the infection, a clearer picture of the eventual economic impact of SARS can be seen. And in the end, it appears likely that the biggest impact will not be from massive deaths, as in the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, but from fear and containment responses.
