Germany: A Significant, if Uncertain, Election

Germany will hold national elections Sept. 27. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is likely to retain her position. However, the outcome of the elections will shape the coalition Merkel constructs and this, in turn, will determine how strong and focused Berlin can be in its role on the international stage.
