Russia: Gazprom Makes Its First International Move

Alexei Miller, the chief executive officer of Russian state-run natural gas giant Gazprom, said Oct. 19 that Gazprom was considering the purchase of state-owned oil firm Zarubezhneft from the Russian federal government. A successful acquisition will not only be Gazprom's first step toward becoming a global energy supermajor, it will also affect the balance of power in Russia.
