Venezuela's Election Is a Foregone Conclusion. But What About the U.S. Response?

Venezuela has moved forward with holding its May 20 presidential election, even though the United States, the European Union and most of Latin America have announced that they consider the election illegitimate because of the Venezuelan government's increasingly authoritarian behavior. In December 2017, President Nicolas Maduro's ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela barred the opposition coalition Democratic Unity Roundtable from running in the election.
