After months of talks to form a governing coalition, the pro-Russian Socialist party and the pro-European ACUM bloc reached a consensus agreement on June 8, naming the ACUM's Maia Sandu as the new prime minister. However, the Democratic Party of Moldova refused to accept the deal, and, in accordance with the country's Constitutional Court, Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip, a member of the Democratic Party, dissolved parliament, calling for early elections in September.
